These digital paintings began as photographs made in US national parks. Each image was converted to a vector graphic and redrawn using a virtual paintbrush in the shape of another graphic, which also appears as its title card. In this way, the resultant image is a composite of instantaneous sensory information (photograph) and mediating metadata (title card information). The process hints at a third term between visual perception and the projection of an interpretative framework by the viewer onto the landscape.
